We edit and give feedback on work you already wrote. We never write, finish, rewrite or ghost-write any part of a dissertation, including results and discussion chapters, and we never help text avoid AI-detection or plagiarism checks. Rules on outside editing differ by university, program and committee, so check yours and read our academic integrity policy before you start.
Why does a dissertation need an editor?
A dissertation is written in pieces over a long time, often with feedback from an advisor arriving chapter by chapter. By the final draft, terminology, tone and structure can differ from one chapter to the next, and it is hard to read your own writing with fresh eyes.
An editor reads the whole document the way a committee member will. We flag where an argument loses its thread, where a key term changes meaning, where chapters repeat each other and where sentences hide your point. These are the problems that make a reader work harder than they should.
Editing does not replace your advisor. Your advisor judges the research. Help Me Bro helps the writing carry that research clearly, and every change stays your decision.
How does Help Me Bro’s dissertation editing work?
The process runs in four phases. Each phase ends with something you receive and a point where you decide what happens next.
- Scope and quote. You send your chapters, word count, deadline, style guide and program requirements. Deliverable at end of phase: a quote based on word count and the turnaround you pick. Approval gate: you confirm scope and turnaround before any work begins.
- Structure and clarity review. An editor reads the dissertation and comments on how the argument builds, how chapters connect and where the writing is unclear. Deliverable at end of phase: your document returned with margin comments. Approval gate: you review the comments and decide what to change.
- Language and style pass. The editor comments on grammar, wording, tone, consistency and departures from the style guide you gave us. Deliverable at end of phase: your document with language and style comments. Approval gate: you accept, reject or rework each comment yourself.
- Your revision. You revise in your own words and can bring questions about the comments back to us. Deliverable at end of phase: your own revised dissertation. Approval gate: you decide when the draft is ready, check it against your program’s rules and submit it under your own name.
See the full process on the how it works page.
How does chapter-by-chapter editing work?
Help Me Bro can edit your dissertation as a whole or one chapter at a time, so you can get feedback while you are still writing. Each chapter has its own common problems. Our guide to dissertation chapters explains what each one is for.
- Introduction: comments on whether your problem statement, purpose and research questions are clear and consistent.
- Literature review: comments on organization, repetition, transitions and whether sources are synthesized or only listed.
- Methods: comments on clarity and consistency in how you describe your design, in the text you wrote.
- Results and discussion: comments on clarity, tense and consistency in your own text. We never write or interpret these chapters for you.
- Conclusion: comments on whether your conclusions match your questions and are stated plainly.
- Front matter and references: feedback on abstract clarity, headings, citations and reference consistency against your style guide.
What do dissertation editors look at, and why does it matter?
Dissertation editors at Help Me Bro look at six things that committees and graduate schools notice. The table shows what each one is, why it matters and how we help.
| Requirement | Why it matters | How we help |
|---|---|---|
| A clear problem statement and research questions | Every chapter is judged against what you said you would do | We comment where the problem or questions are unclear or shift between chapters |
| Logical chapter flow | A committee follows your argument from start to finish | We flag gaps, repetition and weak transitions for you to fix |
| Consistent terms, tense and voice | Changing terminology confuses readers about what you mean | We note where terms, tense or tone change across chapters |
| Clear sentences and correct language | Unclear writing hides sound research | We comment on grammar, wording and sentence clarity |
| Citation and reference consistency | Mismatched citations look careless and are hard to check | We flag mismatches against your guide, such as APA 7 dissertation format |
| Formatting to your graduate school’s rules | Many graduate schools check format before they read content | We give feedback on departures from your template, and offer dissertation formatting feedback separately |

Does dissertation editing differ by degree?
The process is the same for every doctoral degree, but the emphasis changes with the type of project. Tell us your degree when you request a quote.
PhD dissertations
PhD dissertations are usually the longest, with the most chapters to keep consistent. Editors pay close attention to how your contribution is framed and to terminology that shifts over a long writing period. A master’s project is shorter, so see master’s thesis editing if that is your degree.
EdD and DBA projects
EdD and DBA projects are often practice-focused and may follow a different chapter structure. Editors comment on clarity and consistency within the structure your program sets. For guidance on the project itself, see our dissertation coaching services.
DNP projects
Medical and health-science editing is outside Help Me Bro’s current scope, and we will say so honestly in your quote. Send a sample page with your request so we can confirm fit before you pay.
Should I edit before or after my defense?
Most candidates get editing before they send the dissertation to their committee, so readers meet a clear draft. After the defense, you often have committee revisions and a final formatting check before you deposit. Help Me Bro can give feedback at either stage, on the text you revised yourself. If you are preparing for the defense itself, see dissertation defense prep.
Do I need to tell my committee about editing?
Policies vary, so ask your advisor or graduate school before you hire an editor. Some institutions require a disclosure statement and some limit the kind of help allowed. Our guide to the editing disclosure statement explains what one usually covers. Because we give comments only and you make every edit, you stay in control of what you disclose.
Who edits your dissertation?
Ahsan Irfan is the founder of Help Me Bro and edits every dissertation. He holds an MS in Finance from the University of the Punjab. Engineering and medical or health-science editing are outside our current scope, and we will say so honestly in your quote. Read his editor profile.

Dissertation editing FAQ
Is it allowed to hire a dissertation editor?
Rules differ by university, program and committee, so check your institution’s policy before you hire an editor. Some programs ask you to disclose editing help, and some limit what an editor may change. Help Me Bro gives comments and feedback only, and you make every edit. Read whether dissertation editing is allowed and our academic integrity policy.
Who owns my dissertation after editing?
You do. Your dissertation, ideas, findings and wording remain yours, because Help Me Bro gives comments and you make every edit. We do not write sections or claim authorship.
Is my dissertation kept confidential, and do you use AI?
Unpublished research deserves care. Confidentiality terms, file storage and retention, and any use of AI tools in our workflow are being confirmed. Help Me Bro never uses AI to write your work for submission. Read our privacy policy and AI policy, and ask us if anything is unclear.
What is your refund policy?
Refund terms are being finalized and will appear on our refunds page. Until then, please ask for the current terms when you request a quote, so you know what to expect before you order. We will not promise a refund outcome before the policy is final.
How long does dissertation editing take?
Turnaround depends on the option you choose: 24-hour, 48-hour or 72-hour delivery. Faster delivery costs more per 1,000 words, at $25, $15 and $10 respectively. Tell us your deadline when you request a quote, and we will confirm which option fits. See the pricing page for every service.
Are revisions or follow-up rounds included?
Revision and follow-up terms are being finalized. Please ask about them when you request a quote. Until the terms are confirmed, we will not promise a number of feedback rounds. You can see the stages of a project on the how it works page.

Engineering and medical or health-science editing are outside Help Me Bro’s current scope, and we will say so honestly in your quote. Send your abstract or a sample page with your quote request so we can confirm fit before you pay.
What will the editor not change?
Editors do not change your research questions, data, analysis, findings or conclusions, and do not write new content, including results or discussion chapters. We comment on how clearly they are expressed, and you make every edit. For the full list, read what editors can change. We also do not help text avoid AI-detection checks.
Can I get a guarantee that my dissertation will be approved?
No. Help Me Bro cannot promise approval, a pass or any committee decision, because those belong to your advisor and committee. We can help your writing read clearly and consistently. We also cannot predict how any AI-detection or plagiarism checker will score your work. Our guide on AI detection explains why.
Should I tell my committee that I used an editor?
Ask your advisor or graduate school first, because policies vary. Some institutions require a disclosure statement, and others have no rule. Help Me Bro gives comments only and you make every edit, so you decide what to report. Our guide on the editing disclosure statement explains what one usually includes.
