Integrity first. We proofread work you have already written. We never write, finish, rewrite or ghost-write any part of a document. Please check your institution’s or publisher’s rules on outside proofreading before you send a draft. Our academic integrity policy explains where we draw the line.

Why proofread an academic document before you hand it in?

A proofreading pass catches the small errors that survive many rounds of writing and revision. A typo, a missing word or an inconsistent spelling is easy to overlook when you have read the same pages many times.

These slips matter because instructors, supervisors, reviewers and funders read closely. Surface errors can distract from your ideas and make careful work look rushed.

Proofreading belongs at the end. It works best once your content, structure and argument are settled. If you still need feedback on clarity or organization, you need editing first. Our guide to editing vs proofreading explains the difference.

What do academic proofreading services include?

Help Me Bro proofreading is the final surface-error pass. We read your document and leave comments on the following:

  • Spelling and typos, including repeated or missing words
  • Grammar, such as agreement, tense and article errors
  • Punctuation, including commas, apostrophes, hyphens and quotation marks
  • Consistency in spelling variants, capitalization, abbreviations, number style and heading style
  • Visible formatting slips, such as mismatched fonts, spacing or list styles

What does proofreading not cover?

Proofreading does not cover content, argument, structure or research quality. We do not rewrite sentences, restructure sections, check your data or judge your findings. If your document needs that kind of attention, look at our wider academic editing services.

What kinds of documents can you proofread?

We proofread a range of academic documents, including course papers, reports, research proposals and similar work that you have already written. Each document type has its own conventions, so tell us what yours is and which style guide applies.

DocumentWhat we checkWhat you decide
Papers and reportsSurface errors and consistency across sectionsEvery change to the text

Is this the same as thesis and dissertation proofreading?

This page covers academic documents in general. For a long thesis or dissertation, with chapters, front matter and committee revisions, see our thesis and dissertation proofreading page.

How does academic proofreading work?

  1. Scope and quote

You send your word count, deadline and any style guide. We confirm the scope and turnaround. Deliverable at end of phase: a written quote. Approval gate: nothing starts until you approve it.

  2. Proofreading pass

We read your full document and leave comments on surface errors. Deliverable at end of phase: your document with comments and feedback. Approval gate: you review every comment and decide what to change.

  3. Your corrections

You apply the changes you agree with. We do not edit your text for you. Deliverable at end of phase: your corrected document, in your own words. Approval gate: you decide when the document is ready to go.

Who is academic proofreading for?

Undergraduate and graduate students

If you have finished a paper or report and want fresh eyes before you hand it in, a proofreading pass can catch what rereading misses.

Researchers and applicants

Proposals and applications are read closely. A final check for typos and inconsistencies helps you present your own work clearly.

Multilingual writers

If English is not your first language, a proofreading pass can flag grammar and usage patterns. Our ESL academic editing page covers deeper language support.

Subject scope. Engineering and medical or health-science documents are outside our current scope, and we will say so honestly in a quote.

Is it allowed to have my academic work proofread?

Many institutions allow proofreading when the work stays your own, but rules differ by school, course and publisher. Check your institution’s policy, and ask your instructor or supervisor if you are unsure. Help Me Bro gives comments only. You make every change and stay the author.

Who owns my work after proofreading?

You do. Help Me Bro never writes or rewrites any part of your document. We return it with comments and feedback, and you decide which changes to make. The ideas, the words and the authorship remain yours throughout.

Is my document kept confidential, and do you use AI?

We treat your document as private and use it only to provide your proofreading feedback. Our privacy policy and AI policy explain how files and AI tools are handled. We do not help text pass AI-detection checks.

What is your refund policy?

Our refund terms are on our refunds page. Please read them before you order, and contact us if you have a question about your situation. We do not promise outcomes such as grades or approval from an instructor or reviewer.

How fast can you return my proofread document?

You can choose 24, 48 or 72-hour delivery. Faster turnaround costs more per 1,000 words: $25 for 24 hours, $15 for 48 hours and $10 for 72 hours. Send your deadline and word count with your quote request, and we will confirm what fits.

Can I get revisions or extra rounds?

If you apply our comments and want a later version rechecked, send it and we will quote the new pass based on its scope. Each pass uses the same per-1,000-word rates. We suggest one pass after your final round of changes.

Which disciplines do you cover?

Engineering and medical or health-science documents are outside our current scope, and we will tell you plainly in your quote if your document falls there.

What will the proofreader not change?

We do not rewrite your sentences, restructure sections, change your argument or alter your research. We flag surface errors with comments, and you decide what to do. For more detail, read what editors can change.

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

Proofreading is the final pass for spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency. Editing looks at clarity, flow, organization and argument, and happens earlier. Read our editing vs proofreading guide to choose the right one for your document.

Can I get a guarantee on the result?

No. We do not guarantee grades, approvals or decisions by instructors, reviewers or funders, because those depend on your work and on people outside our control. We can promise careful comments on surface errors within the turnaround you choose.
