Our integrity line. We coach and give feedback; we never write, finish or ghost-write a proposal, chapter, literature review or result. Coaching does not replace your advisor or committee, and committee and ethics-board approval is your process: we cannot promise approval, a pass or a degree. Check your institution’s rules on outside help, and disclose it if they require it. Read our academic integrity policy.
Why proposals get stuck
A proposal has to convince a committee that your problem matters, your questions are answerable and your design can answer them. Most proposals stall because these pieces do not line up: a broad problem, questions that do not match the method, or a design that cannot produce the evidence the questions need.
The second common problem is feedback overload. A committee’s comments can be hard to turn into a revision plan, and it is easy to fix sentences while the underlying design stays unsettled.
Proposal formats differ by field and program, so we describe general structure only. Your handbook, advisor and committee set the rules, and we do not guess at them.
What goes in a dissertation proposal?
Most proposals include a statement of the problem, the purpose, research questions or hypotheses, a review of related literature, a planned method and a plan for analysis, though names and order vary by program. Help Me Bro gives feedback on whether each part of your own draft does its job. Our guide to dissertation proposal format describes the common structure in more detail, and you should check your program’s template first.
How long is a dissertation proposal?
Length varies widely by program, field and method, so we do not state a typical page count. Ask your advisor or check your handbook for the expected length and format, and plan your outline to fit it.
How do I align the problem, questions and method?
You align them by checking that each piece follows from the one before: the problem justifies the purpose, the purpose leads to the questions and the questions determine the method. Help Me Bro coaches you through that chain by asking where it breaks, for example a question that your method cannot answer. You decide how to fix it.
A quick self-test: can you state your problem, purpose, main question and method in four connected sentences, each one needing the one before it? If not, the alignment is where to start. If your topic is still broad, see topic refinement first.
Can someone help me with my proposal, and what must I write myself?
Yes, within limits. You must write every part of the proposal, make every design choice and be able to defend it. Help Me Bro can coach you on alignment, comment on structure and clarity, and edit your language through comments. We do not draft sections, write questions or design your study for you.
We also do not supply answers about analyses you do not understand.
Coaching or editing: which do you need?
Coaching is about the thinking and structure of the proposal, and editing is about the language and format of the text. Help Me Bro offers both, and many students use them in that order. Our research proposal editing service covers language and formatting edits on a proposal you have written.
| Question | Proposal coaching | Research proposal editing |
|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Alignment of problem, purpose, questions and design | Language, clarity, consistency and format |
| Best time to use | While the design is still being shaped | When the content is settled |
| What you get | Questions, structure feedback and milestones | A copy edited through comments |
| Who makes the changes | You | You |
| Writes sections for you | No | No |
What do committees and ethics boards expect?
Expectations differ by university, program and committee, and your advisor is the right source. Many proposals must also describe how you will protect participants if you collect data from people, and some need approval from an ethics or institutional review board before you begin. Help Me Bro can point out where your plan raises questions to settle with your committee or board, but we do not decide what they will accept.
How a coaching engagement works
Help Me Bro runs proposal coaching in four phases. Each ends with something you can use and a point where you decide whether to continue.
- Scoping. We review your program’s guidelines, your draft and your advisor’s comments. Deliverable at end of phase: a short written plan with milestones. Approval gate: you approve the plan and scope before any session begins.
- Alignment coaching. We work through your problem, purpose, questions and design, and ask where they do not connect. Deliverable at end of phase: your own written notes on the decisions you made. Approval gate: you confirm the direction and take it to your advisor.
- Draft feedback. You send sections you wrote, and we comment on structure, argument and clarity. See literature review coaching for the review section. Deliverable at end of phase: a commented copy of your draft. Approval gate: you accept or reject each comment and revise yourself.
- Final read-through. We check how the whole proposal reads and flag remaining gaps. Deliverable at end of phase: written feedback on the full draft. Approval gate: you decide when it is ready to send to your committee.
What a proposal must show, and how we help
| Requirement | Why it matters | How we help |
|---|---|---|
| A specific, important problem | It justifies the whole study | Ask questions that test how specific and researchable it is |
| Questions that match the design | Committees probe mismatches | Point out where your questions and method do not line up |
| A focused review of the literature | It must support your problem and gap | Comment on relevance and structure in your draft |
| A method you can carry out | Feasibility is a common concern | Give methodology feedback on your own plan |
| An ethical, realistic plan | Boards and committees need to approve it | Flag questions to settle with your committee or board |
| Clear writing in your own voice | Readers must follow your reasoning | Edit through comments; you make each change |

- A written scope and milestone plan you approve
- Coaching sessions on alignment and design at times you agree

Which proposal are you writing?
Master’s thesis proposal
We coach you on a tight, answerable question and a design that fits your program’s scale, and comment on the draft you wrote.
Doctoral dissertation proposal
We focus on alignment across problem, purpose, questions and design, and on how clearly your draft makes the case to a committee.
Applied doctorate project proposal
If your program is a DBA or EdD, see our applied doctorate coaching page.
Engineering and medical or health-science work are outside our current scope, and we will say so honestly in a quote.

How do I align my problem, questions and method?

Can someone help me with my proposal?
Yes, within limits. You write every part and make every design choice. Help Me Bro coaches you on alignment, comments on structure and clarity and edits language through comments. We do not draft sections, write questions or design your study, and we cannot promise approval by your committee.
What is the difference between coaching and editing?
Coaching deals with the thinking and structure of your proposal, such as alignment and design. Editing deals with language, clarity and format. Help Me Bro offers both, and in both you make every change and stay the author. Many students coach first and edit once the content is settled.
How much does proposal coaching cost?
Written feedback on a document costs $25, $15 or $10 per 1,000 words for 24, 48 or 72-hour delivery. Live session time has no published price and is quoted after scope. Your total depends on your word count and the sessions you choose. Get a quote to confirm.
How long does coaching take?
It depends on your starting point, your program’s milestones and how many phases you choose. We agree a milestone plan with you in the first phase. Written feedback can be delivered in 24, 48 or 72 hours. We cannot predict how long your committee or ethics board will take.
Will coaching get my proposal approved?
We cannot promise approval. Coaching can help you present a clearer, better-aligned proposal, but your advisor, committee and any ethics board make every decision. Help Me Bro is not a substitute for your advisor’s guidance, and anyone who guarantees approval is overstating what an outside coach can control.
Can you write my dissertation proposal?
No. We never write, finish, rewrite or ghost-write a proposal or any other work for submission. If asked, we decline and offer coaching or feedback on a draft you wrote. The client stays the author, makes every edit and defends the work.
